Bear

It was a happy day for Bear's new family--I took Bear (my
foster) to meet his people today in Mt. Holly (they came down
from NY, and I drove up from Newark, DE to meet them). I think
he'll be very happy with his people--thank you Robin for
suggesting them! Of the family's three children (ages 10, 11,
and 13), I think their son (the 10-year-old) was the most
intrigued. Bear will now have five people to dote on him. He
will have lots of room to run, and a vacation cottage on a
lake--very nice!!!
I encouraged the family to call me if they have any questions.
But I couldn't wait to hear how things had gone, so shortly
after I got home, I called them to get a report. They said
Bear rode all the way home very quietly in his crate (which
was right in the middle of their three children where they had
removed a seat in their van). He sniffed all around their
home. They have baby gates to keep him confined to a couple of
rooms unless someone is supervising him in the other rooms.
(Probably a wise idea, since at about 17 months he's still a
puppy and likes to chew things quite a bit.) I asked them to
take a picture of the family with Bear in the photo and to
email it to me. (The battery for my digital camera wasn't
working when I went to take the photo--rats!.)
Bear is such a loving soul--all three of us (Chelsea, Panda,
and I) will miss his silly antics and happy energy. I tried to
make the transition easier for him by sending along food and
snacks that he had become accustomed to. In addition to a 6
pound bag of California Natural dry dog food, I gave his new
family a box of Meaty Bone Milkbones (the ones with the Boston
on the front), a Hartz chew toy (a hard plastic bone-shaped
thing that has nubby parts in the middle--both my dogs love
them), a bone (sanitized one that had some filler in it), and
a blanket for his crate, in addition to the crate that his
surrendering family had supplied (plus the toys they had
sent).
It was the beginning of a new and happy forever home for
little Bear.

Sherlock

When Julie pulled him from the shelter he was a terrified and
sick boy. With her tender care she restored him to happiness
and health. Jerome and
Bonnie made him their Furever Boston on May 17.
Jerome writes:
"Hello,Everyone. (Good
Morning!!! - What a ride - I was on the road for 7 hours,
but it was worth every mile!) Terrified??!! Julie, You've
have done a miraculous job!! "Sherlock" is not afraid of/or
intimidated by anyone or anything. . He instinctively knew
how to play "Who's your daddy?" and has "Baxter" on the
defense (for now).
We absolutely love him. He
has the most wonderful disposition. He's going to instantly
become the neighborhood favorite tonight at the evening
school field "doggie dance nightly gathering". I can tell
that this will be a match made in heaven; he and Baxter are
starting to chase each other and play - They will wear each
other out each day, which was exactly what I was hoping for.
They look great together too. - a perfect contrast.
(Hey,
Julie - Was "Sherlock" the loudest snorer of your
household??!! He can really "saw some wood" . It's
comical).
We feel
so blessed to have him - He is so wondereful - It must have
been very difficult for you to part with him. Thanks.
Jerome"
Julie writes:
"Hello
Jerome!
Your email made our family's day! I am so happy to hear what
I suspected was true, that Sherlock is indeed home. I told
my husband that when Sherlock saw you in our lobby last
night he jumped on you and kissed you like he'd been waiting
for you his whole life --and I believe he has been.
And the fact that he and Baxter are playing together already
is marvelous.
As for the snoring (ahem) my mother was staying at our
apartment last week and she was sleeping in the guest room
with the door closed and Sherlock was in our room with the
door closed and she thought he'd gotten into her room and
must have been under the bed. I think he could out-snore any
person or dog anywhere. And I'm glad to hear his eye isn't
getting in the way of his settling in.
I'm just thrilled you are all together! Thanks so much for
writing!
All the best and give that little mush some extra kisses,
Julie"

Charlie before |
Charlie after |
Charlie came to our rescue group straight from a pet store in
New Jersey. They said he was blind, bumping into everything in
his small cage. When he finally arrived at his foster home in
Saugerties NY, he was so weak he could barely stand let alone
have the strength to bump into things. He was extremely skinny
and had to wear a sweater to stop him from shivering. He was
not eating well and had diarrhea. After a trip to the vet it
was found he had the worst case of coccidia and giardia he had
ever seen and those were his exact words. This is what was
causing his weakness. He was not blind at
all. Within a few days he started having multiple seizures.
They were so bad that his foster mom had to sleep in the
living room with him to keep an eye on him. He was put on
phenobarb which helped but he still had seizures at least once
a month. He started to improve after several treatments for
his internal parasites and his little personality started to
come through. It was clear he would always be a special needs
boy but deserved to live a full and happy life. After several
months Charlie found a forever home. They continue to work
with his special needs and have tried some holistic approaches
which seem to be helping. They love him dearly and he is as
happy as can be.
Lucky

Lucky resting
and relaxing after her surgery
"Lucky originally became
homeless after her elderly owner was admitted into a nursing
home. She was then passed thru another home or two before she
came to Northeast Boston Terrier Rescue. None of this seemed
to alter her wonderful personality. She soon became part of
one of our foster homes and earned the love of all who met
her. She made herself right at home and greeted everyone with
enthusiasm. She is a very special girl who soon got the
nickname, The Princess. She most definitely was a Royal in her
former life.
After a few weeks at her foster home she began to limp. After
a visit with the vet it was discovered she had 2 grade 4
luxating patellas.( bad knees) A second opinion
said exactly the same. The Vet said she had been living in
constant pain most of her life and she would only get worse as
time went on. It was decided that surgery was needed. With the
help of other volunteers she was transferred to Massachusetts
to be closer to a vet who did a wonderful job. A week later
she was back to her foster home for rest and rehab. A month
later she was lounging in the sun in her new forever home. She
now lives in Woodstock New York with a retired couple who
treats her like the Princess she is.
With the help of other volunteers she was transferred to
Massachusetts to be closer to a vet who did a wonderful job.
Once again NEBTR is indebted to the help of Vicki Kennedy
of
Kennedy Bostons
and her vet, Dr. Vinny, for helping us help Lucky."

Makayla

"Makayla was
rescued from a Lancaster Co. puppy mill in November 2007. She
was fostered by Tammy T, and two days before Christmas she
came home to us. She is doing very well here and has become
best friends with her big Boston sister Sabbie and foster
sisters Mum Mum and Gracie. Makayla likes to spend her time
sunning in the front window and wrestling with the other
girls. She loves to eat chicken meat loaf and yogurt."
Chance
"At around 6 months old, Chance was rescued in
November 2007 from being sold on Craig’s List. His foster
parents named him Chance for giving him a “second chance”. He
came to his foster home very scared, undernourished, dirty,
covered in fleas, 3 or 4 different kinds of worms, demodex,
luxating patella in both knees, and a swollen eye with scar
tissue on the cornea. Within about two months, he looked like
a completely different Boston, although he will be on
eye drops for the rest of his life. He spent Christmas and New
Year’s with his foster parents and that is about the time they
realized their household consisted of TWO Boston Terriers. He
just had the best personality that fit their household and got
along so well with their other three year old Boston Terrier
that they couldn’t let him go. He is about to celebrate his
first birthday and his past rough life is a distant memory.
Happy Birthday Chancers!!"

Mason

Say Hello to Mason -
The smiling Boston ! Mason was surrendered with his sister
because his family did not have any time to spend with them
due to business. Mason is now living like a king in NJ and
has never lost his wonderful smile.
Addie

Addie was rescued from the CACC in Brooklyn,
having been found as a stray. Addie had cherry eye in both
eyes, kennel cough and was underweight. We had the Vet
correct her eyes, her kennel cough disappeared and within 2
weeks she was playing hard with other fosters.
Addie now lives on Long Island with the company of a Dauchsie.
Joe

Meet Joe - a special needs
rescue. Joe is deaf. He was rescued by Ohio Boston Rescue
and transported to NY for adoption. Joe is now fluent in
doggie sign language and lives on Long Island with 5 other
Bostons in the home of one of NEBTR's Directors. Being deaf
does not hold this dog down.
Please consider special needs dogs when looking to adopt !
Champ

This attractive fellow is Champ. Champ was abused by his
former owners. His jaw was broken and never set, so his
tongue hangs out of his mouth. His new owners report this
just adds to his wonderful personality! Champ now has a
caring wonderful family who love him and his flaws. Photo was
supplied by his new family.
Buster

Buster was rescued from a Long Island Shelter in 4/05. He was
sick with a respiratory infection and extremely thin - not
very desirable. His foster parents took him in to help him
regain his health and figure. After a week they realized
that Buster was already in his forever home and they would
never let him go. Buster is now a happy, healthy 35 lb.
Boston living in New York City.
Gator

Gator was originally placed
with an All Breed Rescue- his Owners were a Military Family
being transferred overseas and they could not take him - Gator
was only 10 months old and had a special challenge - he is
deaf. NEBTR was contacted to take Gator and he was placed in
a foster home familiar with deaf dogs - he happily learned
sign language and
loved being able to finally communicate. Gator's foster home
turned into his family and he now lives with 5 other Bostons -
including Joe who is pictured above. PLEASE consider special
needs dogs!
Daisy and Lilly
Daisy
and Lilly were found in a Shelter in NJ - after they had been
there over a month. They are both about 4 years old.
Both dogs were very timid and scared to death living in the
Shelter. One of our members rescued them and after taking
them to the Vet was informed that Daisy required surgery on
both of her rear legs. She also determined during foster
care, that these dogs had to be placed as a pair, as they are
very attached to each other. We made arrangements for Daisy's
surgery and we found the PERFECT home for them TOGETHER. We
are happy to report that Daisy had her surgery and has fully
recovered. We would like to sincerely thank all involved in
the rescue and care of these 2 wonderful dogs. A Special
Thanks goes to Kennedy
Bostons in MA who helped us secure a Vet who was willing
to give Daisy excellent care and perform her surgery. Please
click on Kennedy Bostons to visit their website, they have
great Boston information and photos.
Ladybug
Ladybug, now renamed Bug, was picked up by the NYC Animal
Control in Jan of '04 wandering the streets of Brooklyn. Bug
has brain damage and was also listed at the Shelter as a biter
and had a bad staph infection on her skin. NEBTR was called
and she was placed with a wonderful caring family in PA who
cared for her while her medical needs were met and ended up
adopting her! We are happy to say that she has adjusted well
and is healthy and happy. Bug has learned to cope with her
disabilities and is a joy to her family.
Ms. Jazzy
Say
hello to a wonderful older BT Ms. Jazzy. Jazzy was rescued in
March of '05 and was in terrible shape. She had spent most of
her 14 years in a crate for long periods of time. Her teeth
and gums were so infected she had a strong odor about her and
she could not eat very well and was very thin. Jazzy had to
have 12 teeth removed - BUT we are happy to report that Jazzy
was adopted by Bug's parents Rich and Marcia and despite a
small setback which caused her recently to lose an eye she is
a 22lb old timer who loves nothing more than to snuggle in bed
with her family!
